I have been an avid firearm owner for many years, I was a competitive shooter when I was a much younger man. I always loved the way the images in the magazine made the craftsmanship of the firearm look, very rugged and powerful. Over the years I have developed my skills and even had a few of my imaged used for some firearm ads. Here is an image of one of my favorite rifles. This is a AR based M4, the caliber is 9mm SBR and has a Gemtech Supressor. The lower is made by POF, and this bad boy has many extras. When I decided to photograph it I wanted to show just how I felt about this piece of equipment. The way the light struck it and how the mood of the image portrayed, was as important as the detail to me. It took quite a while to get the light just right, and get the lines to highlight with that certain gleam.
Firearm Photography is no different than any other product, you still try to sell the buyer on the product. In this case I am the buyer and I was particular about getting this just the way I wanted.
FYI: The firearm in this image requires a great degree of patience to obtain. I had to undergo several background checks and wait several months before the Sheriff, FBI, ATF would approve me for owning such a firearm.
Here is some video of this firearm in action:
The failures are intentional, there were blanks loaded so it would force the shooter to react to the failure. This was a training I was giving to some students.
